    Floyd County first responders are currently handling multiple vehicle accidents caused by hazardous winter weather conditions. Every extra vehicle on the road increases the risk of more crashes and slows down fire, EMS, law enforcement, and VDOT crews trying to reach people who need help. If you do not absolutely have to travel, stay home.

    Winter Storm Warning is in effect through Sunday 02/01/2026 What to expect: • All snow event • 1–3 inches of snow expected • Light snow may begin as early as 6:00 AM Friday • Heaviest snowfall: 12:00 AM Saturday through 6:00 PM Saturday • Strong wind gusts expected Saturday into Sunday, which may lead to blowing snow and reduced visibility Potential impacts: • Slick and hazardous road conditions, especially during peak snowfall • Reduced visibility due to blowing snow • Isolated power issues possible due to wind Residents are encouraged to plan ahead, limit travel during periods of heavy snowfall, and continue to monitor official updates.   • Public Notice: Fraudulent Calls Claiming to Be Treasurer’s Office

    Floyd County has received reports of individuals calling residents and falsely claiming to be from the Treasurer’s Office. In these calls, the individual states they will come to the resident’s home to collect tax payments. Please be advised: The Floyd County Treasurer’s Office does NOT collect payments in person at private residences. County staff will not call to arrange in-home payment collection. If you receive a call of this nature: Do not provide personal or financial information Do not agree to any in-person payment collection Report the call to the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency number (540) 745-9334 All official tax payments should be made in person at the Treasurer’s Office during business hours, by mail, or through approved payment methods.   • County Administrative Offices Closed 01/27/2026

    The Floyd County Administrative Offices will be Closed today, Tuesday, January 27, 2026. We have a team working to clear the entrances to the Government Building but due to the extremely cold temperatures there is still a lot of ice to be dealt with. Please stay safe and warm today if you have to venture out!
