Due to the extremely dry conditions and the effects high temperatures have on our firefighters' health, we are issuing a fire warning.
Floyd County urges citizens not to do open burning until we receive some significant rainfall. If you must burn, please call our non-emergency line at 540-745-9334, advise them of your burn, and leave your contact information and address.
Safety Guidelines for Burning:
Never leave a burn pile unattended.
Have shovels or rakes on hand to control the fire if it spreads.
Perform controlled burns after 4:00 PM due to lower winds.
Do not add to the pile after 12:00 AM.
This is not a fire ban, but we recommend waiting to burn if possible.
